University College Dublin

University College Dublin (UCD)is Ireland's largest and most richly diversified university. The University traces its origins to the Catholic University of Ireland founded in 1854 by renowned educationalist Cardinal John Henry Newman, author of the celebrated 'The Idea of a University'. Since then, the University has played a central role in Ireland's advancement as a successful European state and has established a distinguished record of service to scholarship and to the Irish and international community.

UCD is a vibrant, modern and research-intensive university situated on a spacious campus four kilometres to the south of Dublin city centre. For students, both Irish and international, it is a supportive and stimulating environment in which to spend a period of intellectual and personal development. UCD is currently leading the way to 4th Level Ireland with the introduction of five new graduate schools providing innovative, modular programmes and researcher training of international status. These graduate schools are closely linked to UCD's research institutes and will foster collaborative programmes and exchange arrangements with leading universities around the world. UCD is a member of Universitas 21, an international network of distinguished research-intensive universities.

UCD offers a lively campus community in which to live and study. The University has modern buildings and first class academic and sporting facilities. It has a busy extracurricular life and students are encouraged to become actively involved in the wide range of social, cultural and sporting activities available. UCD also has comprehensive student support services, including a student health centre, student advisors, counselling, and careers advisory facilities. Student accommodation is available on-campus for 3000 students.
